The world is changing....

Australian churches are changing too.

In a busy and frenetic world, Christians are rediscovering how to connect with local communities and social networks, often with surprising results.

So what is a fresh expression of church?  The are forms of church adapted to a changing culture and tailored to the needs of non-church people.  They are places where people who don't care about church-going can find community and discover Jesus together.

Fresh expressions of church don't wait for people to walk in through the door. Nor are they special one off events or a route into 'real' church.  They are intentional communities that become church for their members by gathering around Jesus, proclaiming God's Kingdom, growing new Jesus-followers, responding to needs, challenging injustice and making the world a better place.

To help Australians rethink their approaches, the Anglican Church produced the brochure, Time to Grow: Doing Church Differently.  A sample is now available online.  If you'd like some copies, contact Wayne Brighton for more information.

Does Anglicanism have a future?
Fresh views By DNNAdmin on Mon, 11 May 2009 22:40:30 GMT
How do you feel about the Anglican church? Hopeful? Dispondent? Brian McLaren believes that the Anglican communion could be "a store of theological, liturgical, spiritual, and relational treasures that could create space for millions of people who are currently and increasingly disaffected from conventional Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, and Mainline Protestant church life." Is this doe-eyed optimism? Does it address the deep reluctance to engage missionally with Australians beyond the church?

What issues concern young Australians today? A Mission Australia survey of 45,000 young people released in late 2008 suggested that issues like body image, drugs, family conflict and violence were the top issues nationally. They present a missional opportunity only if we take the time to listen and play with pop culture.

Diversity - it's an opportunity and a challenge
Fresh views By DNNAdmin on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 10:24:21 GMT
Australia is a diverse society. Why is that churches struggle with diversity? Why do we think that homogeneity will make things any easier? Surely, if the whole world is to engage the whole gospel it will take a whole lotta more churches to do it?

How do we measure our missional life?
Fresh views By DNNAdmin on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 09:35:03 GMT
As a 'research guy' I'm always interested whether we are measuring church life appropriately. The issue is important, because what we measure forms the bottom line and the bottom line reflects our priorities for ministry and mission.

Spirituality in a Consumer World
Fresh views By DNNAdmin on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 09:33:56 GMT
Christians either fight consumerism through prophetic action or they buckle to it by praying for prosperity. Is there another way? Ian Mobsby suggested that we could challenge it through subvertising.
